The humidity is finally hitting Aomori. Temperatures are on the rise, weather is volatile and unpredictable, and the sweat is starting to form on our brows. However, when I think back about the hottest summer moments, in the unairconditioned staff room frantically waving a fan at my face, I always make sure to pay my respects to the people suffering most during the hottest and stickiest of seasons – people who dress up in mascot costumes. These brave people put on huge, insulating layers of fur and fabric and have to keep things genki, even when they’re dying on the literal inside. So to pay homage, this month’s trivia trap is all about Japanese mascots!
Here are the two wonderful prizes you can try for:
1)￥1000 Starbucks gift card
2) Mysterious Mystery Box of Mysterious Mystery! Tell us what kind of stuff you’re into, and place your faith in me to deliver a worthy prize. It could be anything–even a ￥1000 Starbucks gift card!
Let’s kick it off!
- Half a hard boiled egg on skis, often seen salting themselves or wearing a stars-and-stripes top hat. What area does this mascot represent?
- A kawaii-fied “resurrection” of a Japanese Shogun – complete with Piano hakama and an eel for hair. What town claims this mascot as their own?
- A blue haired super-hero king, permanently holding Champon noodles with a red Kanji-shaped moustache. Which town?
As always, use any means necessary to find the answers to the questions. Send your answers to email@example.com. Answers are due by Friday 14th July! The winner will be announced in the August Vol. 1 issue of Good Morning Aomori.
