If you go down to the woods in February you’re sure in for a big surprise. Deep in the Blue Forest a magical snow land complete with a banana boat snowmobile awaits…
If being dragged around an ice rink on an inflatable banana isn’t your thing, warm yourself up with unlimited refills of mulled wine, chill in the Kamakura Ice Bar with Totoro and friends, or just stroll around and admire the pretty snow lights. The main stage entertainment does not disappoint either; gather round for incredible taiko and shamisen performances, and even join in with some Nebuta jumping to keep your toes warm. It wouldn’t be a festival without food stands selling everything from horse nabe to okonomiyaki, and of course a spectacular fireworks display to finish the night in style.
Lake Towada Winter Story is the largest snow festival in the Northern Tohoku area and runs until February 28th. Make sure you check which roads to the lake are shut to avoid unnecessary delays!
